Pictures of the beginning

it's amazing what these little taxis can carry.
Gerardo and the taxi driver figuring out how we were going to get these huge and heavy baskets home.
Gerardo and the girls at the Laguna lookout.
This was the kitchen. It had a counter made of dirt and a fire pit in the corner. They dug it out and are putting in cement in this picture.
This is our kitchen. The stove is hooked to a propane tank. We barely cooked on it with the wind blowing on the flame.
Home sweet home
We lowered the floor so had to add a step next to the bar to be able to reach it.
This is the front of the house. Our clothes are in the baskets under the plastic to keep dust off and rain.
In the chaos, I lost my phone charger and was not able to take videos or many pictures. I finally was able to borrow a camera for a few days. Living in the mud was definitely an experience. Our entire household was piled under a tree covered with plastic. To find anything, we had to move most everything into the dirt and mud and of course, if we ever found what we were looking for, it was at the bottom! I never even got a picture of the big pile under the tree. :(
One would ask how successful business owners could put themselves in this position. That's a great question I ask myself daily! We started all this because we wanted to go organic, have our own milk, eggs, food, and so on. We came to Central America for the kids to learn Spanish and spend time with Gerardo's family. Plus Central America is great for growing just about anything. Not to mention the weather is fantastic. We just had no idea how big a bite we were taking!
